This series of suite-like compositions was written by Fred Frith in the Fall of
1994 while he was living in Big Sur, commissioned by the Rova Saxophone Quartet.
"The determining factor," writes Frith, "was the understanding that Rova wanted
material which they could transform through improvisation. Most of the 'stories,'
therefore, involve some question about what might constitute musical freedom..."
