Visit Carla Kihlstedt's website.
Kihlstedt is a founding member of Tin Hat Trio and the art-rock band Sleepytime Gorilla Museum. She was a featured soloist at the MATA festival in New York and was commissioned by Merkin Hall in New York City to write and perform a duo for their emerging composer series for clarinetist David Krakauer. She has contributed to the recordings of Tom Waits, Mr. Bungle and the Grassy Knoll, and Maybe Monday.
Kihlstedt has always been interested by the influence that music, theater and movement have on one another. She has worked extensively with choreographers, including Jo Kreiter, Eleni Drogaris and Shinichi Iova-Koga/inkBoat. She has been commissioned by Rova Saxophone Quartet to compose a major work that will be premiered at Other Minds Festival in March, 2010. Her beautiful duo CD with Satoko Fujii is entitled “Minamo.” And her most recent release is “Ravish.”
