Rova 2009 Donor CD

The first of two tracks on this CD come from a session we did last fall documenting the graphic scores of Jon and Steve. We were pleased and surprised by the results and hope to find a label to put it out this year. "Eponymous Reflecta" is something of a hybrid, in that each instrument has its own line of graphic notation. "January 13, 2007" comes from Jon's series of plant-based scores and combines standard notation with flower petals and rosemary leaves.

The next three tracks come from last year's Rovate, where we were joined by the Nels Cline Singers to form what we call the Celestial Septet. "Head Count" was originally written by Larry for our saxophone octet project but adapts remarkably well to this instrumentation. "Trouble Ticket" is a new composition that had its premiere at Rovate and "Blow, Strike, Bow, Pluck and Strum" is a free improvisation by the septet. This group reunited in November to record a CD, which we also hope to put out this year. The last track is a quartet improvisation that opened our concert at the Berkeley Hillside Club in 2007 and shows the wonderful acoustics of that space.

We are most grateful for your support, particularly in these days of economic turmoil, and we hope to see you at our events in the coming year. - Steve Adams
